In March 2017, Meagan Levins launched her Santa Maria Style Oak Pit BBQ catering business. Having moved from Santa Maria to Riverside, she brought with her, her dream of starting a famous and unique Santa Maria BBQ Style catering business.
Lacking the resources to do so, Meagan decided to schedule an appointment and visit the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center for a one-on-one consultation. She met with Al Gohary, Business Consultant/QuickBooks ProAdvisor, and shared her idea. Starting from scratch, she had many questions about how to get started and acquire funding to turn her dream into a reality.
Al Gohary explained and simplified the business plan and the process of starting the business, including the business license and permit requirements, and where to get them. Al guided Meagan while she created her business plan and projected her income and expenses. He explained the funding options available to her, advised her of the best option and made sure she was packaged for success with her loan submission. The client connected with a private lender and was funded $10,000 to start her business.
She has now created and retained two jobs. Meagan plans to host a grand opening soon. She has also has expressed her interest in using the Inland Empire SBDC services in the future, including QuickBooks assistance to keep track of her success.
